Doctor
Dr Becky Donaghy is a local GP partnered with the National Medical Weight Loss Programme, the internationally recognised benchmark for excellence in medical obesity management.
Dr Becky is passionate about functional medicine - looking beyond symptoms to understand and treat the root cause of illness. Her approach focuses on how lifestyle, nutrition and the gut microbiome influence overall health and well being.
Being overweight increases the risk of serious health conditions, including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and at least 13 different types of cancer. Research suggests that the heritability of body weight is around 40-70%, so a simple ‘eat less, move more’ approach is not sufficient for many people.
We hope that combining diet, exercise and the weight-loss medications we can achieve long lasting weight loss for our clients.
The Science
Wegovy and Mounjaro belong to a group of medications called GLP-1 receptor agonists. These drugs mimic a natural hormone in the body that helps regulate appetite, blood sugar and digestion.
GLP-1’s slow down how quickly food leaves the stomach, helping you feel fuller for longer, they also reduce cravings and improve how your body uses insulin - which is why the drugs were initially developed for people with Type 2 Diabetes.
Wegovy (semaglutide)
-works by mimicking the GLP-1 hormone
-taken once a week
-proven to help with significant and sustained weight loss when combined with healthy eating and lifestyle changes.
Mounjaro (tirzepatide)
-works on two receptors: GLP-1 and GIP
-this dual action can enhance appetite control and fat metabolism
-also a once weekly injection
-studies show an even greater average weight loss compared with Wegovy
